YibiDavid wrote:Hi all, I live in Brisbane, northern suburbs . I was at one of the libraries a few months back & they still had the Volume 4, hard cover, very heavy. It covers northern Qld. It's been there for years, but now they have realized it's unique value, so whoever needs to see it has to wait a few days before they can retrieve it from their below ground storage section ( this is true) the lady told me it was cooler down there so I guess to help & preserve it. I was lucky enough to be working at Port Hedland 1984-86 so I bought my first detector. Minelab Goldseeker 15000 for $950 & luckily I obtained Gold & Ghosts Wa Vol 1 through mail order for a huge 30 Bucks. It's still as new, will go back to WA one of these days to see if any of those areas are still accessable, cheers all
G/day YibiDavid,
Just scrounged through my old receipts and found my GS 15000 receipt from ML (1986) for 900 dollars. That was the average going price back then and I still have mine which has been faultless. Not a bad machine that can still perform well in highly mineralised ground.
Cheers,
Adrian SS

Get the librbary to put it in the reserve collection
Hi all,
I borrowed the WA edition from my local library and they had never heard of it before. I told them that it ought to be reference only as at Kal public library. Not sure what they did in the end.

Re: Gold and Ghosts
Hell Cat793,
Do you realise you have just openly breached copyright and it is very likely the authors legal team will be in contact with you very soon.
This may cost you more than a genuine edition?
Peter

Re: Gold and Ghosts
Hallo Peter
I don't get it. How can copyright be breached if you borrow a book from the library? I might be missing something?

The 10% rule.
The librarian at the local Library told me you can legally photocopy 10% of a book. (I didn't see the original post so this may be irrelevant)
Anyone else heard that?

Re: Gold and Ghosts
Yes you can photocopy 10% for study purposes. Each library, UNI, government body and company pays a licence fee to a government body for photocopying and the money (royalties) are paid out to authors similar to the broadcast fees on music are paid back to musos.

Re : Gold & Ghosts
To Adrian SS Sorry taken so long to reply, but I leave Brisbane & my PC behind for 3 weeks at a time, no not for detecting unfortunately. That 86 minelab you;ve got is almost a relic, should donate it to the museum ( just jokeing) If you want to see really tough country with unbelievably high mineralisation try out from the pilbara towards Nullaginne - make sure you carry a jackhammer for backup!!

Re: Gold and Ghosts
These books are referred to as the gold prospectors Bible for a reason. I have all 4 volumes for sale through eBay at $790 each (See below).
I have used these books extensively over the past ten years throughout Western Australia and Queensland. I am now so familiar with the areas I no longer require the books. If you would like any more information about these books, or more importantly, photos/details of the amount of gold I have found in mentioned areas (3.2 ounces in my last trip to WA) you can contact me by email.

Re: Gold and Ghosts
If someone buys me a new Whites TDI, I will give them Volume 3 Queensland, Central and Southern Districts. (Since I know where all these places are now )

evan2010 wrote:hi all, ive read the Wa edition and have found the majority of places mentioned are now held by mining companies so you'll need to apply for a section 20A in those areas. Also to u308, a good book to look for covering the Murchison is called 'Meekatharra the gold beyond the rivers'
Sounds like it's worth every inflated penny then..
