Re: vodafone coverage.........
Claimpeg,
Vodaphone has the worst country service of any phone company I have ever used. When I was in business, I used to go to Tassie and the only coverage was in Hobart and Launceston. When I used to travel Sydney / WA, I might as well have turned it off. I think from memory I used to get coverage in Broken Hill, Pt Augusta and Kalgoorlie. It's hopeless.
Telstra Next G on the other hand, covers every town (in the triangle and elsewhere) and even a lot of aboriginal communities.

Re: vodafone coverage.........
G day All
I had a similar problem with vodaphone coverage which is a pity because the've got some real good deals.
I brought a cheap telstra next G pre paid i think it's a t6 anyway it was $100 bucks and it's got the BLUE TICK which they recommend for rural areas.
It works everywhere i've tried it.
Here's the next G coverage map http://www.telstra.com.au/mobile/networks/coverage/
Just click on an area.

Re: vodafone coverage.........
Telstra covers 95% of "populated areas" only, which is about 10/15% of Australia.
If you want to improve your reception as you move away from the "populated areas" knock yourself up a "Yagi antenna".
Cheers

Pete I'll carry your baby if you'd post a step by step on how you built that thing!

Details later Steve, however if you look up "Yagi Antenna" in Google, you will find info, it was invented early in last century.

Re: vodafone coverage.........
G.day claimpeg ..and all ,, I have the Globalstar/Pivotel GSM/Sat phone which utilises voda GSM in Major centres only , otherwise it,s the satellite connection ..Definately not Telstra . In the WA goldfields vodafone is good to 40km radius of Kalgoorlie , otherwise satellite everywhere else.I know nothing about Victoria ..I used to have Telstra CDMA which was better coverage than telstra gsm is today .The coverage was extensive with Telstra but not in the outback.....cheers
