GOLDRUSH ALASKA, BERING SEA GOLD, GOLDFATHERS
Those of you that have pay TV would have seen these shows on Discovery Channel, I joined QUICKFLIX and now have seen Gold rush Alaska season 1 except disc 3, its on a long wait, season 2 is now out on DVD as well as Bering Sea Gold season 1, I can't download them as internet is to slow, anyone got any of these titles that they are willing to loan out, I have some of Jonathan Porters and Chris Colsen DVD's to send in return, only want them for a few days, 'Jungle Gold' is another coming soon I believe. Good to watch on those boring nights.

Re: GOLDRUSH ALASKA, BERING SEA GOLD, GOLDFATHERS
Hey Tezz,
Gold rush alaska and goldfathers are my two favorites, bering sea gold is interesting (lucky buggers just have it there lying on the ocean floor) but I think they're pushing too much drama into it lately (end of season 2ish). I've tried to watch jungle gold, but it's just too american for me, the guys on that show need to pull their heads in, or they need to make the show less dramatic or something, it seems to be more them running around trying to be over-dramatic heros then them actually getting gold.
Another couple of interesting shows (so far anyway) are; Bamazon, Alabama boys getting gold from the amazon area, and Ghost Mine, it's more hard-rock gold mining/paranormal/superstitious stuff but seems pretty interesting so far.
I'm in Ctrl QLD, if you don't have an offer of someone closer anytime soon, we might be able to come to some arrangement ( I don't have the aforementioned shows on DVD, they're downloads).
Thanks
JC
Edit: As far as I'm aware there has only been one season of Goldfathers, anyone know any different?

I'm hanging for gold rush alaska ep 14 this sunday and californication
downloading torrents is wonderful!
only problem with downloading each as they release is the fact that u have to wait the whole time until the next series is released and in the case of Sons of anarchy and game of thrones that's about a year away

Have watched some 3 minute stuff on utube, drives me mad, I'm out in the bush with wireless broadband, to damn slow and get plenty of dropouts, do you blokes download onto your hardrive and watch them on your monitor? or downloaded into a foxtel decoder? can they be burnt onto a dvd? I need to see these shows on my 50'' tv.
I did send an email to SBS about these shows and the reply was they wern't interested.

Re: GOLDRUSH ALASKA, BERING SEA GOLD, GOLDFATHERS
Download them via a Torrent program linking to online sites.
Some can be put on DVD but due to the High Quality episodes can be bigger than a DVD can handle so can u imagine 13-14dvds per season
ur best off finding someone local that can download and put on a say 16gb usb stick, watch a season then take back to them to put the next season on.

I'm fulla good ideas, just ask me.
But on a serious note, get yourself a usb extention cable (just a short one) too, saves the trouble of trying to find that darn usb slot in the back of the tv every time.

The panasonic is 5 years old, no usb slot, what other options have I got? probably looking slim now!
what about burning onto a 50gb blu-ray disc, got a BD player only, maybe get someone to do it.

A few options, this is 2013 after all, (weren't we suppose to have man missions to Jupiter 12 years ago now?)
1: If you use a laptop, most these days have HDMI out, makes it pretty easy to run a HDMI cable from the out of your laptop to a HDMI port on the tv. If this works for you, under control pannel you can control what the laptop does when you close the 'lid', change this setting to 'do nothing', under your monitor settings you can either set it to duplicate displays or extend displays, both will work, duplicate will show the same thing on your tv that's on your monitor, extend will make the tv as if it's a second monitor sitting on the right hand side of your current monitor. When set up as extended display it will show nothing but your background untill you click and drag something to the right off one monitor onto the second (your tv). Then your right to set a movie/tv show playing and just close the lid on the laptop and it should continue playing fine on the tv. HDMI transmit both Audio and Video in the one cable, so sound will come through the TV.
2: Pretty much the same as the above, except if your laptop doesn't have HDMI out or you're using a desktop it may have S-video out, a single yellow RCA plug. You can just connect a yellow RCA lead from the laptop/desktop to a RCA (one of the AV channels) in on your tv. I can't really give you exact instructions on what settings you'll need as every video card can be different. Once set up you should be able to display video on your tv transmitted via your computer. Audio will still be transmitted via your computer speakers though, or external speakers if you have them plugged in to your computer.
3: You use to be able to buy (i haven't seen them lately, although in saying that I also haven't been looking for them) and external hard-drive you could load movies/shows onto and it plugged directly into your tv via RCA cables. Audio and video would be played though the tv because the little external hard drive contained all three cables.
Let me know if your interested in #3 there and i'll do some digging around and try to find where you could buy one from.
Thanks

Re: GOLDRUSH ALASKA, BERING SEA GOLD, GOLDFATHERS
Thanks JC, with option 3 what you are saying is if I could get a usb stick that has been downloaded with the movies and plug that into that harddrive and using those cables or HDMI if the hardrives have that connection as well now would work, sounds simple, first problem is to get someone to download those titles onto a usb stick that has high speed internet.

Close mate, I didn't explain this one very well sorry. They do have a name I just can't think of it at the minute.
The device I'm thinking of looks for all the world to just be an external hard-drive except instead of only having USB connection, it has USB, RCA (Yellow Red & White) and a 240volt power adapter, I believe they also came with an IR receiver and a remote control so you could fast forward, rewind, play stop ect.
So movie/tv show storage is taken care of by the internal hard drive, and it connects directly to your tv, skips out on the middle man (your computer in this case). So someone sends you a flash drive will all the shows loaded up on it, you plug the flash drive into your computer and plug this external tv playing drive into it and copy tv shows from flash drive to hard drive in this device, after they're coppied. Disconnect this device from your computer and connect it to your tv and you should be right to go watching the shows off this device on your tv.
I'll have a search on google when I get back early tonight, I wanna say they were called a...'tv-mate' or something.
I'll let you know when I find more.

Re: GOLDRUSH ALASKA, BERING SEA GOLD, GOLDFATHERS
Hi All,
The best thing to get is a Media Player. They play all video codecs, so all downloaded videos will play on them. They plug into your TV through HDMI cable, have usb and SD card slots. Some have harddrives built in others can have an external harddrive connected through the usb slot.
So if you get the programs on usb stick then you plug it into the Media Player and watch it on what ever size TV you have. The Media Players also connect to the internet so you can watch Youtube aswell. They also can do alot of other things, there like a Smart TV.
Sorry if this is clear as mud, not good at putting into words and typing.
Jack

Thanks Jack for info, Have noticed the new blu-ray players have USB slots, same with new TV's, I assume that would work as well on the BD players, internet is to slow in the bush so won't be streaming or downloading, only want those gold shows, I think their will be more coming as goldrush alaska is no1 in US.
These gold shows are they free to download do you know? or you get them from utube?
cheers

Re: GOLDRUSH ALASKA, BERING SEA GOLD, GOLDFATHERS
most people would probably download them tezz, the small amount of storage space they take up they're no burden to keep and you can re-watch down the track if the need ever arrives.
I believe you can watch some of the shows on the discovery channel website (it may just be highlights i'm not sure)
Downloading the shows, 99% of the time is via torrents which are free, but it's still breaking copyright law.

Re: GOLDRUSH ALASKA, BERING SEA GOLD, GOLDFATHERS
I've been lurking around off and on the last year because all my life I have wanted to visit Oz, then I got myself a Whites GMT last year here in Alaska and then I followed our local forums of the Bering Sea Gold and the others and basically yes drama is heavily inserted, encouraged and used to create suspense and viewership. I am a long ways from Nome, several hundred miles at the least and I constantly get calls from my relatives wanting to come visit me and to drive there, yeah right, there are no roads to Nome whatsoever unless you ride a snowmachine, ATV, dog sled, boat or by air. And its immensely expensive to buy even the basic supplies as most is flown in or brought up on barge during the summer. I used to watch the show but I got tired of it, of the constant bickering, stupidity, recklessness for the most of it.
I wish there was an Australian series of fossicking or prospecting. That I would be very interested to see. I just bought one of those Samsung 10.1 tablets and its amazing the video I can play on it, I have it tethered by wi-fi to my cell phone so I can get internet anywhere I have cell coverage. I'm researching all the equipment I can use when I arrive in Oz hopefully within the next 6 months, sure is nice to have a forum like this to seek out answers, like what type of vehicle, tents, food and gear, thanks mates for contributing. Hopefully I can spend a lot of time in Oz, maybe the full two years on the visa, nothing to keep me in Alaska anymore and at 56 I'm not too old to call it quits exploring.

Gold miner,
will keep that in mind later on, at the moment a very helpful guy on the forum has offered to put all those shows on a USB stick for me.
silverado 6x6
Welcome to OZ when you get here, their are no australian gold shows unfortunatly, not sure why, maybe its not viable for a small film company or people prefer to watch Big Brother trash or many limitations on what they could actualy film, Australia is not like North America, infact Australia has become a nanny State due to ridicules laws and red tape by government idiots, no mechanical digging, blasting, dredging etc unless you have a mining claim. Oh and leave your revolver at home.
There are a few dvd's around mainly on detecting with various machines.
Those gold shows we know have fake drama but it is interesting to see the different types of gold deposits, equipment/machinery and mining.
Plenty of guys on the forum will help with any future questions.

What ever you do Tezz, do not copy JPs DVD if someone lends it to you!
He is a member of this forum though he rarely posts!
He would be most upset if you copy his DVD!
If you want to benefit from his DVD bye a legit copy!
Worth its weight in gold!

Hi Slagheap,
I have some of JP's dvd's, not interested in copying them and wouldn't anyway, only interested in U.S. gold shows that are not available here, not on region 4 dvd, or not going to be shown on free to air tv, not everyone has Foxtel, SBS were not interested in showing any of these shows, they would rather stay with their housos BS I guess, so stuff them all, So I don't have much choice.

Re: GOLDRUSH ALASKA, BERING SEA GOLD, GOLDFATHERS
I am watching Goldrush Alaska at the moment (about 2/3 of the way through season 2) and I must say it is one of the most frustrating shows I have ever watched. I feel like yelling advice at the TV every time Todd Hoffman opens his mouth! His ignorance and lack of common sense is astounding! I wanted to yell "sample you retard!" back in about season 1 episode 3. It's a fair way into season 2 before someone tells him he needs to sample. And then he hires a guy with an auger (I wouldn't call it a drill rig) to drill about 8 holes a few metres deep for a few thousand dollars. The funny thing is they have their own excavator! Why the hell didn't they dig some pits with their excavator for sampling????
In season 1 they said the Hoffmans invested/borrowed $270k for the year, and found about 14 ounces worth about $20k! lol! And them by some miracle (obviously Discovery channel money) they are back the following year to try again. But Todd Hoffman obviously hasn't done any research, hasn't learned anything and still making rookie errors. But what does he care - it's not his money. I guess that's why I find it so frustrating to watch. It's not like the real world, Darwinism is not at work here. If it was, the Hoffmans wouldn't have lasted more than 3 months in their first year.
The guys working for the Hoffmans seem to be good, hard workers and I feel sorry for them. The other mining teams on the show - the Dakota boys and the Schnabels are pretty good. If it was just the Hoffman team I wouldn't keep watching it.

The guys at Indian river did well I thought but what a disaster Todds new turbo trommel was.
I read on the net that season 4 has some big changes and Todd is going down to South America to mine a claim,
If anyone is getting frustrated watching these shows wait until you see 'BAMAZON' and 'JUNGLE GOLD' lol
'BERING SEA GOLD' would have to have the most idiots, its a wonder someone hasan't been killed.
