Re: Out & About. X 2
Hi Whiskers,
Good colour mate!
With that pump, they usually ship with no oil or maybe just 'transport' oil.
It must be filled, settle, checked to the right level.
Then the oil pressure switch will hold in.
If the oil level is a little low and the pump not level on the ground, that oil pressure switch will shut the motor down intermittently.
Hope that helps bud!

Re: Out & About. X 2
wish I could get out
Good post James
Quite often manufacturers use a corrosion inhibitor which needs to be flushed out of the carby by removing to drain plug on the bowl and allowing fresh fuel to escape!!
Some inhibitors create a varnish which blocks or restricts the main jet, in which case the jet will need to be removed and cleaned.
Buying over the net will increase this problem, as they can't ship with oil or fuel, so the pre-delivery could be years old??
Glad it worked it's self out Broom Broom

Re: Out & About. X 2
Someday mate that is also worthy of note also. I did flush the carby. but it made no difference i did not give the jet a thought, bugger. cheers mate

Nothing worse than going out for a dig and having to play round with the pump But good to hear you got it sorted in the end.
Some nice gold

Re: Out & About. X 2
Well
Done on getting the pump working
And getting some nice colour
But most of all sounds like a good outing
Was had in good company
And that's what counts
While we're on the topic of faulty pumps
I used a brand new one the other week
And was hard to start also
Oil was changed
Checked gap on spark plug
Got her started
By puting a little fuel on the plug
She did cut out after a while
And sounded a little chuggy
I didn't have much hose running from pump
To high banker
But had to run it with a little choke on
To keep the pump running smooth and
The water flow fast enough
Mayn't I need to clean the jet also

Re: Out & About. X 2
lbg dreamer, what you described is a partially blocked main jet!
not enough fuel getting through and too much air, by using a tad of choke, your reducing the amount of air and getting a smidgen more fuel from the idle circuit!!
Sometimes if yu lucky the main jet will clear itself, so give it another go, you may find the problems gone
Cheers
Chris

Re: Out & About. X 2
Thanks guys
I'll throw in a ngk
And give her another go
When I get a chance
I'm a detector operator
But got to borrow a hb
So thought why not
Last run we did 10 15l
Buckets
And only got 3 colours
But
They were there
And my 5 year old was helping
So he got the gold
And was over the moon
Might do some test panning
Before setup next time
So we get a little more on the colour side
As my 5 year old asked can he buy a car with that
When he's older
I'll throw in a ngk

Re: Out & About. X 2
On 2 strokes I have found at times if they will not run flat out and just seems to idle or they get very hard to start. Take the muffler off the head and check for carbon build up. This happens a lot if you don’t run them flat out. cheers

Re: Out & About. X 2
Sometimes chucking the muffler on the fire also helps ! As I'm sure you know

Re: Out & About. X 2
When all else fails, chuck the whole pump on the fire!
"That fixed that, Bee-arch"
Biggest problem with 2 bangers is stale fuel.
Best bet when your done, Drain the carby!
I don't agree on running a 2 stroke out of fuel! fuel is the only lubricant
and you's are bang on the money with carbon'd up mufflers and or port hole

Re: Out & About. X 2
I would agree someday with old time fuel but these days ethonal is the problem and not burning the 2 stroke will leave a film on all the parts that is a bugger to get it going again !

Re: Out & About. X 2
G'day Ark, I have diddly squat knowledge on ethanol used in today's fuel, so can't comment on that one!
Oils ain't Oils sole. when it comes to mixing fuel for 2 bangers? anything less than a TC-W3 rated oil will result in a % of un-burnt fuel
So for others out there, don't buy cheap two stroke oil !!
Back to me hole...Bye

Re: Out & About. X 2
I concur with that on the oil! But it is my aim to get rid of 2 strokes forever out of my life !!!!L!!! but unfortunately I have a 2 stroke gen set that now goes!!!! So I will keep it till I can afford a 4 stroke! Sigh !

Re: Out & About. X 2
Someday mate that is real good advice. Ethanol based fuel i don't run it in my cars and i will not run it in my small engines I just don't like the stuff. cheers James

Re: Out & About. X 2
I looked at getting her a gold snoop or something like that but they are almost as big as she is and she specificly asked for a pink detector Its just a toy but will pick up metal on the surface and she has fun with it.
