Panners Mate
Hi all,
Just wondering if anyone has used the Panners Mate? (I have included some info below that I have part copied from a description of it from a dealer selling them.) If anyone has used it, what are their thoughts, experiences, pros and cons if any? Am considering purchasing it, but just not sure at this stage.
Some feedback would be really appreciated, thank you.
Details
The Panners Mate is a simple but effective concentrator for a wide range of minerals.
It is designed & manufactured by Paul Myer, a qualified mine manager with 30 years experience in the industry ,who runs the Three Creeks Gold Mine in Upper Bingara NSW.
It is made from Stainless Steel and is easily operated by hand without the need for pumps or motors, it weighs only 4Kgs.
Pauls work with mining companies showed the need for a reliable small scale processing plant that could be taken anywhere, even where there was no water available.
Because it is used by mining companies it has to be rugged and it must reliably separate the heavy minerals from the host material. The Panners Mate effectively scrubs and then displaces the unwanted lighter materials leaving behind only the heavy materials. The process not only works for Gold, Platinum & Tin but will also separate precious stones like – Diamonds, Sapphires and Rubys and Semi Precious stones like – Garnet Topaz and Zircon.
The Panners Mate can be used directly in a creek or dam and when no water is available it can be used in its own sturdy container with a minimum of water needed ( 40 Lt. ) which is recycled for reuse again.
Thanks and Cheers....!

Re: Panners Mate
There is a utube vid but it looks like a cut down creswick panner ! If you have sticky clay give them a miss ! Do you know how to pan correctly? Do you have any sives ? I think these things are good money spinners for the guys who make them ,will they ever pay for themselves ? Maybe ,maybe not ! So I suppose it's up to you if you buy or not but I think in time there will be a lot of these stuck in the back of the garage ! Just my opinion after 40 yrs prospecting ! If you don't have good pans and sives I would suggest you invest your hard earned in those first and maybe try to find a good panner to,show ya how to be confident with your panning method !

Re: Panners Mate
Amber please post a pick it would be much easier to judge that way. But i must confess i have never used one never had the need for one. My tip would be to save a bit of money and practice your panning learn the back wash style. In no time flat you will need no other gear when panning other than a pan. Cheers James 101

Re: Panners Mate
Haha, definitely not my product or ad for that matter, but I did take the info I posted initially for this product from a website that sells them.
****Disclosure: I am no way affiliated with the maker or seller(s) of the panners mate, just seeing if anyone has ever used one and if so what were their thoughts on it.****
So as I am trying to figure out how to post a photo which is not proving successful might I add at this stage, here is the link to a YouTube video of it in action

Thanks and cheers,

Re: Panners Mate
the clay i get gold out of does not go thru sieves as easy as the sand material he was using in that you-tube link...
thats the trouble with most of those you-tube adds...they never use clay so we can see how they would go in the real world...
cheers

Re: Panners Mate
As it has turned out I have not been successful with posting a picture of this product sorry. But I don't need to now as you have answered my call for feedback.
Thank you to everyone for your responses, it is very much appreciated....!
Kinda confirmed what I was thinking, that is was very expensive and just how effective would it really be???
And fencejumper, thanks for getting me thinking about the clay. Would indeed be great to see some of these products actually use clay and then we could ascertain its capabilties in varying conditions etc or even if it works at all?!
Thanks again......!

Re: Panners Mate
Amber I did mention sticky clay in my post as it was the problem with the Creswick panner which is similar to the one your are talking about ! Also do not use a turbo pan because they don't like clay either ! Yep Mother Nature doesn't make it easy to give up her riches
Amber I wonder why you don't see them using clay?????? Ill leave that one to you !

Panners mate
I use a panners mate and find that it works well when used in the right area/s. I find that it is a useful piece of equipment to have when prospecting for gold/sapphires (eg ancient or dry creek beds etc) in regions where there is simply no natural water to be found nearby. I agree with the other forum members - it is fairly expensive to purchase and less useful in high clay/heavy soil types (where the recycled water could potentially silt up and thus require more frequent changes). The main advantage (for me) is that I can use it in poor light (ie continue process material [such as sand/gravel] at night) and water can be located at the site where I want to work (ie I do not have to carry all my material to a distant site such as a dam for conventional panning).

Re: Panners Mate
Well I also bought one.Ive found it works really well.Clay soils do have to be broken up,we manage this by using the sieves on top of the panners mate in the water and rub the clay in the sieve. When i use the paddle to stir the soil,I do it longer than I otherwise would. This breaks it down enough. As for using it in dry areas,it works a treat.I can go all day without changing the water. Its not water by the end of the day.More like thick sludge, but it still works and you save any water that comes out of the box by placing a bucket beneath the hole in the side.I think I use 40 Lts a day two of us working together.
We can go all day without panning the concerntrates.(we never do though,we like to see what were finding) You can just keep on loading the panners mate and it stores any gold you find at the bottom.
It may be a little expencive, but I having had one now for two years, have had no problems with the workmanship and would process 5 to 10 times as much if I just panned.(depends on the type of material your working)
My biggest problem is getting the time to go out.Hoping to go to Glendons this Sunday. If theres no water,I just take my 40 Ltrs and Im set for the day.
hope this helps
Mark
ps;i posted a clip on youtube I think if you put in Bingara and panners mate you should find it.
