GOLD WASHING DISHES
A Bendigo digger of 1852 writes :— ~ A good deal of fine gold is lost by inexperienced persons through using improper dishes for washing purposes. The best dishes are those with the bottom soldered on to the sides, by which means a small ledge is formed inside ;the outer rim of the dish should be formed by means of wire, .which again forms a ledge, find in testing fresh ground it is important for the speculation that no specks should be lost.' -——
