Expensive item found when detect keep?

Hi all,

This may sound like a noobie question. I'm still very new to detecting. Plan do more detecting at local park and beach. Just curious if we're able to keep our find. I know that coins are okay, but how about jewlery or items that really expensive? What about the law? Report to the police?

You really need to report it, there has been a real big push up here by the Cops at places like Cash converters to inform people of what the requirements are.

Jewellery etc should be reported and placed with Police most local to the area where found (in SA ... not sure about interstate). There is a 3mth period (I believe) where the item/s are held. If the items are not claimed in that period, you have a claim on them, and most often, the Police will return the item/s to you.
