Good times in the Murchison
Hi Folks,
Just back from a 2 week trip to the Murchison WA with a good friend Suzie. We had some great fun, lovely weather except for 2 days of near cyclonic wind that ripped my shade tarp eyelets out of the canvas.
We visited an old, well known set of shafts thinking we might pick up on a few small nuggets overlooked by previous detectorists, but to our surprise we stumbled onto a couple of patches that yeilded well over 2 ounces of small nuggets and 1 lovely 42 grammer at approx 14". Well done Suz. I got a plea on the CB from Suz, "Hey Steve I need some help, Ivé nearly dug my way to China can you come over finish the last bit of a dig for me please?"I know theres a nugget in this bloody hole but I can't seem to locate it. Well a quick scan with the 17"eliptical, thats how big this hole was, I located the signal about 14"down in the side of the hole. A quick couple of well placed scratches and the nugget dropped into the bottom of the hole. I bent down into the hole and picked up the nugget and tossed it up to Suz, who couldn't believe what I had thrown to her. SHe dropped it like a hot potatoe, the look on her face was bloody priceless. Suz was so exhausted and excited by the find, she had to sit down and gain her composure. Wow what a day!!
I am using a GPX5000 with a NF17 eliptical and Suz was using her trusty GPX4500 with the 14 NF eliptical. My weigh in netted 48 grams plus a nice speci with approx 2 grams. 65 nuggets in total.
We will be heading back to the area next week for another 2 weeks and will be doing a bit more exploring. Then my son (rarebreed) and his wife will be visiting us out there for 10 days. Just hope the beautiful weather continues a bit longer.
Cheers
Steve

Re: Good times in the Murchison
Top effort, congratulations...... an thanks for letting us know the detector & coil used along with the depth. To me that's invaluable info given I'm a raw novice when it comes to detecting
