Coiltek "Big Red" coil ?
Hi all ... I'm looking for some information &/or comments on the following coil which I bought a little while ago.
Coiltek Manufacturing Mono UFO 24" x 12" Commonly called "Big Red" MAYBE! But it is an open spoked coil, not solid!
The coil did not come with any skid plate. I will be using this coil on a GPX4000
Thanks all, in anticipation
Top View : Sorry about the poor quality of these shots!
Bottom View: The odd markings are just 'light reflections'

coiltek big red coil
hi kate
i recently bought a secondhand ufo coil but mines the earlier black one. i have heard the black ones are better yet to try it out on my 4000 and
4500. going up to my lease in the flinders ranges in the next week or two so i'm going to try it out. will let you know how it went.
mine came without a skidplate but trevor at coiltek had one to suite.
cheers garry

Re: Coiltek "Big Red" coil ?
suppose to be a really good coil. i had one but didn't use it much. only negative about them is they only have 1 mounting bracket, not 2 like most common coils. skid plates should still be available to order.

Re: Coiltek "Big Red" coil
Supposed to be waterproof by all accounts.....set in solid epoxy.
Be lucky.

Re: Coiltek "Big Red" coil ?
Yes! The underside (black) could very well be covered with an epoxy! It has a clear very smooth coating! And it feels as if it has been "poured into the channel".
Be lucky? Do you know anything else about this type of coil, or have experience with this coil? It looks a pretty "deep" kind of coil ... but I know nothing really about it .. and I can't find anything about it on their website.

Re: Coiltek "Big Red" coil ?
They have great ground coverage
There very sensitive for there size
They will pick up small and large targets at depth
If you get your hands on a copy of jack langs nugget hunting , on one of the four he uses one and you will see it in action
If I had one and it suited the ground I was on (it wouldn't leave the stem of my detector until it was time to go over the patches I'd found with it with my coil arsenal ) depth would be near equivalent to a 16 round off the centre of the coil ! But the heel and to will be more sensitive being elliptical
Hope this helps

Re: Coiltek "Big Red" coil ?
Wow, lbg dreamer .... thank you so much! Great report!!
Now I'm 'super' happy with my eBay purchase (early July of this year) I paid big $$ for it, so <Whew> glad to hear it's a good coil for it's job.
Cheers all ... and thank you for all of your input.

Re: Coiltek "Big Red" coil ?
Gday Kate,
I used to use the 17" UFO which is the little brother of the 24". I ran it on a SD2200d,GP Extreme and a GP 3000.
Great coil, even on smaller bits at depth. Can be a little touch sensitive when bumped around rocks/sticks or clumpy grass.
Mine had a skid plate that sorta clipped into place.
It found me plenty of gold and payed for itself many many times over.

Thanks Gus ... looks like I might have got myself a 'winner'! I must ask Bendigo Gold if they can get me in a skid plate for it, next time I'm over in VIC.

Re: Coiltek "Big Red" coil ?
The coil you are showing is actually an open Coiltek 24" monoloop called a UFO. Big Red is actually a solid coil and a good deal heavier than the UFO. I have owned and used both coils and found them both extremely good.
