Trip to Tibooburra/Milparinka

I'm in the initial planning stages of a trip to this area in March/April 2012. I would be gratefull if forum members who have "been there and done that" could answer some general questions.

What licences/permits/permissions do I need to detect in this area ? I have searched this forum for the answer to this. But I have just ended up a bit confused with all the NSW regs.
What are the best maps to get that will show me where I can/cannot prospect ?
I am looking to buy a SD2200 for the trip.(can't afford a new GPX5000 Sad

). I currently use an X-Terra 705, but think a PI machine would be a better proposition. Thoughts anyone ?
I currently have a 2wd with good ground clearance. Barring any massive downpours, can I access most prospecting areas with a 2wd ?

A lot of questions I know. Also, if you have any hints and tips that would make my stay in the area more comfortable, please fire away. Any input would be appreciated.
