GPX 4500 VS GPX5000 VS modded GP3500
Hi all,
In a bit of a predicament. I am seriously thinking of modding my 3500 or selling/upgrading, but even when he may lose money Ismael seems to think a 4500 is better that a modded 3500, mainly due to the smooth threshold which is decent advice, but then Woody tells me the 5000 is only good for small shallow gold and a modded 3500 will get a fair bit more depth over anything above it.
So then, just because the timings are faster for the 4500/5000, does this mean it loses depth? How can minelab charge 6k plus for a new machine, that will not out perform a modded 3500 ?
What to do, what to do, please help?

Given a choice always listen to Ismael, he doesnt talk through his pocket like the other bloke...just my observations over a fair number of years....then watch Johnathon Porters new video comparisons 4500v5000 and then consider how vulnerable you may feel to expend a large amount on fuel to get to distant fields and you are placing your trust in a fiddled..read modded.. detector V a quality guaranteed <if your the original owner> Minelab detector......got to be a no brainer of a decision IMO...plus you retain a secondary detector market value either for trade or if you get tired of detecting with an unfiddled Minelab...would you really risk all of that on a claim of greater depth by a vested interest who would of course make that claim.......Hoo Roo

GPX 4500 VS GPX 5000 VS Modded 3500
Ok just my opinion....You seem unhappy with your 3500....Now i started back detecting again after a break of 5 years since (2005) I had a GP 3000 back then and it was the machine that i really started to find a bit of gold with mainly because of the smooth threshold..Unfortunately i had to sell it and concentrate on my business again at the time..
So 2010 arrives and i`m in a much better position to return to the hobby i have dreamed about since stopping..Now i wanted a 4500 but decided on a good second hand 3500...the thing is i found a 0.1g bit with it and was getting back in the swing of things, but i still knew the 4500 was something special...The 4000 was a jump, but the 4500 with Enhance plus more won a lot of detectorists over I thought of modding the 3500 but decided against it,and waited for the right time to buy a 4500..
I ended up buying a 4500 off a forum member who in turn bought a 5000..Having owned the 4500 since September 2010 i am very happy with the upgrade A smoother threshold compared to the 3500..better timings and a much more versatile platform...Don`t fiddle with your old machine, just buy the newer technology because it is the ultimate upgrade, and backed by Minelab.
Since owning the 4500 to date i have found just on 3 ounces of gold here in Victoria, and that may not be a lot by others standards, but i am certainly happy with the choice i have made.Sure the 5000 has new improved features, but if you can afford that then go for the newest technology.Operating a 4500 you still have a proven and capable gold finder.

Mate the 5000 is every bit as good as the 4500 is on deeper gold and better on the small gold.

I totally agree, people have got the 5000 all wrong, they think just because the 5000 picks up small gold, then that's all you will pick up and you won't get the depth the 4500 will, the timings on the 5000 allow you to find small gold that the 4500 will and can miss, my mate and I have proven this time and time again.
Re: GPX 4500 VS GPX5000 VS modded GP3500
Hobos gold you are so true about picking up the small bits, We have a patch that has given us lots of gold,we found it with our old 4500 it has been smashed behond belief by us and many others lately, One section of soft dirt that was out of gold or so we thought, i detected again last night with my 5000 picking up 5 small bits all 0.1 or smaller (didnt register on the scales).
This detctor is amazing and people who think that the difference between the 4500 and the 5000 are minimal are more than likely those who havent used the 5000.
Cheers
