Re: Mount Mulligan Qld
I was under the impression all access to Mount Mulligan was off limits since Gordon Pringle of Australian Muster Experience fame bought the station in 2009?. speaking to George at Miners Den last year about it and he had been denied access after the sale. He had been using the station for his Minelab training days. I hope things have changed but might be worth doing some research before making the trip. I believe Tyrconnell
( http://www.tyrconnell.com.au/ ) still allows access to prospectors for a fee.
Also there is Kingsborough as well http://www.kingsboroughau.com/basecamp.html
Link to http://www.australianmusterexperience.com/blog/2009/08/mt-mulligan/
Also RC62Burke Mt mulligan located http://maps.google.com.au/maps?hl=en&tab=wl&q=Mt%20Mulligan
hope this helps
Please if I am incorrect in my info please let us know. Would love to get back out that way myself one day.
Good luck if you do get access and hope the gold is plentiful.

Hi Bat
Welcome, what detector do you have? do some research on your local area as there is gold around you "El Arish" had some workings, not sure where.
I have not been to Mount Mulligan.

Re: Mount Mulligan Qld
Hello Bat, still learning the country around Mount Mulligan. I will go back in the new year, getting a bit hot out there now but. Might catch you out there some time. It was a bit to crowded out there last long weekend, I think I was the only one detecting, mainly site see'ers and it was school holidays. I think it has had plenty of detectors run over the place but not giving up just yet. What detector have you got? I have a Whites TDI PRO, and a minelab Explorer SE I use on the beach. Still learning the TDI. Cheers Peter,

Re: Mount Mulligan Qld
Thanks for the responses guys.
I have a pretty good camp set up (canvas) and very much self sufficient so can afford to stay 'up country' for a week or two. Depends on how many evening meals I prepare and salt down in Chinese take-away containers before I leave hi hi.
I pick up a new Fisher F-75 LSE next Tuesday when I go down to Townsville.
Being a volunteer teacher's aide at a little school near me, I have just had the Principal's approval to cut my teeth on the new detector
in the school surrounds on the weekends. Whilst the school is very small, it does have a long time history.
It would be great to catch up with you guys soon.
Cheers and thanks.

Re: Mount Mulligan Qld
Hi Bat
Have you paid for your detector yet??
I have spoken to a few people who have tried to use the F75 for gold & they do not handle the ground & are very noisey, for a bit more money a Minelab SD would be much better for prospecting, just trying to help.

Hi Bat
If you are coming to Townsville? I have a "Fischer Gold Bug Pro" that you could borrow for a while to see how you like it & see how it handles the ground, it is very similar in it's ground handling ability to the F75 maybe not as noisey.
Let me know.

Re: Mount Mulligan Qld
Thanks Lee but I would very respectfully decline your kind offer as I'm not big on borrowing things I'm afraid.
What I would like, however, is to maybe meet up for a coffee or some such and have a bit of a yarn. My email is vk4aq (at) bigpond (dot) net (dot) au.
I will be overnighting in the RSL Rooms on CT Road next Tuesday nite.

Re: Mount Mulligan Qld
Hi Bat I stayed at the Mt Mulligan station a few years ago , with the previous owner , I just loved the place , I had hired a early minelab a 16000 or 17000 ? for the first week there , had a superb time but no gold , buttons bullets and nails were the order of the day . A couple of years later I returned with a Lobo Supertrack , this would get a signal off a .2 gramer in air 10 inches , no problem , but at Mt Mulligan the mineralisation would have made that .2 g disapear , it needed something the size of a .22 bullet to give a signal through the mineralisation .
The then owner arranged for me to spend the day with a sd ? owner he found gold , one bit a nice flake ,, but my poor Lobo didnt stand a chance .
I wish I had known how to pan then , think I would have done better in the river !
Good luck Mogy
