What Is This??
I did not find this but does anybody know what it is. I haven't got a clue...It is not a pipe although inside the bowl thingy is a ball of some kind of thread impregnated with a dark brown powdery substance. There is no open connection between the bowl and the tube. The bowl has a hinged lid and the tube has a hinged cap at one end. The other end is closed. It is made from brass, is 23 cm in length and appears to have been handled very often because of signs of wear.

Re: What Is This??
Adrian.
It looks like it could be an opium pipe, especially if the engraving is oriental in design.

I couldn't see any Chinese characters on it, so when Adrain said it was Brass, I thought it might be some sort of Turkish pipe, so I googled "Turkish Brass Pipe" and scrolled through the images and the one on Ebay came up problem solved.
cheers dave

Re: What Is This??
OK smarty pants. Now I want to know when it was made?
Goes back a bit I think.
A close up of the bowl lid artwork. It looks like a seal and may be an indicator to the date of this item??
The thingy at the top right of the lid is a latch ( I think ) and can be rotated.
Art work on the main body.

Re: What Is This??
What date it was made????? hmmm, European and British things have Hallmarks etc to give the date and makers ID, I don't know whether this item has anything like that, Adrain check for Turkish Hallmarks please.
Some of the pictures of other similar ones say 19th century.
