Some times you have to earn it

Hi all, went to this new area in the heat this morning, thought I could squeeze in a few hours detecting before dropping dead. Lucky I went.

Got a nice signal and from about 8 inches down up pops a beautiful iron nail.  About a foot away, to the side of a big flat slab of slate, I get another signal, louder this time, the rusty iron nail's older brother for sure, but I couldn't leave without knowing what it was, so I dug down on one side of the slab.  Nuthing. Did I mention it was hot?
Put detector coil over the slate, lowered the Zeds sensitivity to 1 and it was till picking up the signal from 6 inches above and sure enough it was coming from underneath the slab damn it! I spent the next hour with a tiny screwdriver trying to get underneath the rock so I could put my pinpointer under the slab.,
Finally managed to get the pinpointer about 4 inches under the rock but still no signal. Meanwhile 1/2" bull ants with brushy pale tails start appearing!
What to do, what to do? I know, f*ck it! Go home, it's probably junk anyway.
So I pack up all my gear and get ready to go, when I noticed the hole I had dug to try and get under the slab. Maybe I could lever that b**tard slab upright. I put a log in the hole and it actually moved it a little, then the log snapped. Found a longer log and proceeded to lift the slab upright.



Finally the propointer  started buzzing and from 2 inches down I scraped the target out.





 Man, I was that close to leaving it. Not that big, but the biggest in about 3 years, so I'm happy. Did I mention it was hot. I put on all my gear, grabbed the detector and started detecting again. I lasted about 5 minutes, asked myself if I was crazy, turned around and headed for the Hilux.

Ahh, the sweet smell of success! When you finally pick up the target, and your minds saying it's more than likely rubbish, and your hearts pleading that it's gold,      those last few seconds is what it's all about for me.

Thanks guys, yeh, I try not to leave any signals around slate bars if possible.
Well after downing about 2 litres of Pepsi Max when I got back home, I washed that down tonight with a few Gin & Tonics with plenty of ice. Probably do nothing but rest tomorrow and then try to get back out there on Monday depending on the weather. Err. Cheers!

That is a ripper piece Slim.

Thanks all. Went back to that spot this morning and got skunked!   Out of a total gully length of around 200 metres I only dug up 8 targets and one of them was the 26 grammer....amazing luck I would say.

Crikey Slim , here I am sitting in the air con and I was starting to get a sweat up just reading up on it , and yeah that's what I call a good colour .... Yeah I hate those sorts of situations ,I know if I ignore it till morning ,i'll only lay awake thinking about it all that night....   She's a hot ol summer alright .
