Hi Slim. You do some beautiful turning work! Love the vases that feature the cool narls and blemishes in the wood it makes them Pop!
I thought I'd post a few pics of my hobby that has turned into a career, woodcarving.  I power carve with chainsaws, grinders and Dremels.
The first one is
" Lad to Light Horse " a deep relief carved triptych telling of a young man enlisting and joining the 4th Light Horse.  It's located in the entrance of the Kyneton RSL.

" Griz " is life size and carved from cypress
The Grizzly panel is deep relief carved from cypress.
Mrs Francis White "Lady on the fence" is located in Chewton,Victoria and carved from Cedar.

Merry Christmas and a happy New Year to everyone! santa

Reef Rover Richard was gracious enough to show me around his studio, man the work this guy does is amazing! In fact his whole house is filled with his wonderful art. Way beyond a wood carving hobbyist, he is a master craftsman.
I've been detecting with him, and we've found a little gold, don't know how he finds the time, but he is a gold hunting nut like the rest of us.

Every time I drive past his house, I do a double take with that woman sitting on his front fence...... gets me every time. Razz

Reef Rover quote:- "Love the vases that feature the cool narls and blemishes in the wood it makes them Pop! "

They're my favorite as well, but there's a price that has to be paid to make them. The wood with most character, "the narliest" is usually the most unstable and some of them do go Pop! That's why you have to wear the safety face shield, some of those pieces are spinning at 3000 rpm and when they shatter.... it's every man for himself.... ouch!

Thanks everybody for the kind words.
You know Slim I've never had a go at wood turning and the thought never acured to me that your wood spinning at thousands of RPM's could fly apart Shocked
I think I'll stick with my tools spinning at thousands of RPM's and my wood being stationary!
We'll have to go out again soon and chase some more Nuggets!       Regards Richard

This is where I do all of my stuff.

Notice the exquisite neatness of the surrounds and the plush leather upholstered ergonomic work safe chair.  Q24
It has that "Used" look about it doncha think?

Yeah I do know where it all is. Sad isn't it ...But not until I need it, then I remember.  Laughing
Funny how yer mind works. I do/have done a lot of watch repairs in that room (approx 80,000) and even if someone I met just once or twice brings in a watch I repaired 20 years ago, I will recall the watch and the original fault and what I did to fix it.  pale but I often forget what the missus asked me to bring back from the shops. Conversation between myself and IGA checkout girl.

Me: "I'll have 5 tallyho cigarette papers, 2 packets of green filters and two 50 gram packets of.............. ummm. "scratch
Girl: "Drum?"
Me: "Nuh."
Girl: "Winfield?"
Me:  "Nuh"
Girl: "Port royal?"
Me : "Nuh."
And so on and so on, the poor girl went through everyone of them, except mine.
Me: "Sorry about this"
Girl: "That's ok" she says with a pitiful smile, thinking "this poor demented soul, but for the grace of God."
A thought came to me. The day before I had texted a mate a Xmas greeting, to him, his wife and their 3 year old girl err.......Eve?  scratch
He texted back, " And the same to you from me, the missus and our 2 year old girl Ruby.

"Ahh!" I says to the girl behind the counter: " Two 50 gram packets of Champion Ruby, thanks"  (As proud as if I had just conquered Mount Everest.)

Sad Sad Sad Sad  My 1st senior moment. Sad Sad Sad ( Ok ok, 2nd, if your gonna count my getting Ruby's name wrong.)
