Tesoro lobo supertraq grey new model use of 9 volt battery's

Hi all can I safely use two 9 volt battery's in my detector instead of the two normal battery packs. Normal packs are 6 volt each so 12 volt total. The two 9 volt battery's will total 18 volts. Prompt answer would be appreciated thanks regards krakenup ken

A bit iffy I would say.
It depends on what the internal voltage regulator is designed to handle.
I would not whack 18 volts into my LST

Why two 9vdc anyway? Are the two 6v batts in series or parallel?

They are in series.

thanks. Then you have 11.5-14 volts depending upon the type of battery you are using. why not use a single 12v battery? whats the reason for two batts?

I guess AAs are everywhere and cheap.
As soon as you whack in a specialised single battery the price goes up a lot and battery availability is reduced.
For myself only. If a detector does not run on AAs,C, Ds tor 9 volters then I am not interested in it

The LST does not have a good range of coils and If I want to fit a different coil to my LST then I have to send the detector back to Tesoro for fittment and detector adjustment. I don't know if that applies to the grey Lobo but it is a pain in the butt with the early LST. On the other hand the stock coil has served me well although the LST does not get much use these days since I obtained my Infinium

If you want a detector that can track the mineralisation and provide a readout then you will need something like an MXT or GMT or the latest digital Gold Bugs. Even these detectors may not respond to the gold dust you speak of but they will tell you if you are in black sand country and that is usually where your gold dust can be found.
Power is not everthing in a detector but the target signal processing is.

Infinium? thats a new one on me i will have to check them out. Today I was looking at a Garrett AT Gold and like the display it has. The Tesoro Lobo has no display and that bothers me but i love their lifetime warranty.

The Infinium has been around for several years. It is a PI and you donot want one if you want to be able to track black sand deposits.
The AT Gold is fine but can be a bit touchy in extreme iron mineralisation. When this detector was first released in Australia it could not GB our high iron mineral ground. The detector was modded by the GMC and those mods were carried over into further production runs.
If you buy new then you will be OK but if you buy second hand it will pay to know if you are getting an upgraded detector.
