G'day and to the forum Annabel1974. Which M/L detector did you inherit and very sorry to hear about your dad as well. There is a few good spots around the Daylesford area one of my favourite spots was around the Basalt area. Hope you enjoy the forum and good luck with your new detecting hobby.
Cheers.
Mike.

Re: Newie here saying Hi
Welcome Annabel. I got a gold map of the Daylesford area from the Visitors center. Most of the gold fields areas around Daylesford are ok to detect on. Check out the details on the map and where your friends place in relation to them. There is a lot of fun in research and look on our site at the Info on Vic Goldfields.
Good Luck

Hi Annabel and welcome to the site. Your Dad left you a good legacy. A 3500 machine is a good weapon of it's day and found much gold. I had a 3000 which is one model below your one and it to found lost of gold for me. If you would like to learn more about your machine go to "All about detectors" on this site and go down the column and you will see many comment on the 3500. Also did you get the manual with your machine?

Hi Annabel,
Welcome to the forum.
If you are complete newbie try to do a one day training course. If you are keen to do detecting joining a detecting club is great.
You can post here for a day trip or camping as few guys/girls get together and share the knowledge and detecting spots.
Lot of great people willing to teach and share.
As Wombat was suggesting manual is the bible of your detector.Read it and believe in it.Read it as many times as you will always learn something new.
You can download it there:
http://www.minelab.com/aus/products/consumer/product-archive/gp-3500?view=downloads
Also you can go to Geovic Site and play around the maps:
http://mapshare2.dse.vic.gov.au/MapShare2EXT/imf.jsp?site=geovic
Might find same interesting articles for area you want to go:
http://trove.nla.gov.au/
Just search anything there.
Good luck and ask as many questions and someone will be able to help.

Hello Annabel1974 and welcome to the forum. Sorry to hear about your Dad. It took me some time to get over my Dad's passing.
The guys (and gals) on this forum are quite helpful so I'm sure you will be finding gold soon.

Re: Newie here saying Hi
Hi Annabel,
If you don't have the owners manual for the machine they can be downloaded from the Minelab website.
I was looking on there a while back and they have the manuals right back to the GS15000.
The one thing i have noticed with that gold field ( Daylesford )are many of the gullies were worked right up to the ridges, sometimes the country is quite steep & extensive ground sluicing was employed on the field
i did manage to find some nice gold on a ridge out that way around 2 years ago. Creswick is not too far from there and offers some promise as well plenty of gold bearing gullies, some have lots of trash targets proving
they may not have been detected too much. For me i like to go to high trash areas as i often get gold as few want to stick to those areas.
