Lunch time in Mt Margaret
Went out for an early swing this morning and came across a couple of the local lads collecting lunch who were quite happy to pose for a photo. Just thought I'd share a couple of pictures
Note: the bindies here will stop a tank in its tracks but these young fellas get about in socks and bare feet!

Great pics Steve,
Those young blokes would be able to show me a trick or two about bush survival..
Like the socks the older one has on his feet - yeah like that would help hehe

Great photos there.Very happy little fellas.
Talking about bush survival maybe would be a good idea to have it as a presentation from a local indigenous person when we head to Laanecoorie.
I am sure they will have plenty to offer and i would be fascinated to listen/see the bush with their eyes.

Nice pic Steve
It's good to see young fellas with a smile on their face for a change and making their own fun away from videos games.
The goanna looks like fair tucker but not sure about the snake .
Cheers Mark

Re: Lunch time in Mt Margaret
Remember a few years back was on a bush tucker tour with a aboriginal guide. A good sized goanna scampered out (the locals call them prenties), the guide grabbed his axe and I lie not, threw the axe at the prentie and killed it outright.
At least half a dozen other people on the tour as witnesses. The smile on the guides face as we took photos was from ear to ear.
Will never forget such skill with such a basic tool, so guess these boys are keeping up the tradition.

Re: Lunch time in Mt Margaret
Great pics tuna and commentary. Its a pleasant change to see aborigines cast in this light, enjoying themselves and their tucker. This is what real freedom is all about, away from all the trappings of white mans business.
Thanks
Jeff

Re: Lunch time in Mt Margaret
Thanks for the comments folks!
Wil I did get an invite to lunch, I was heading back into Laverton so had to decline but took a raincheck.
The red thing the older boy is holding up is his snare. They block all the exits bar one on a Bungarra mound and place the snare around the only remaining exit. They either wait paitiently for the Bungarra to poke his head out or they sometimes smoke him out. That's if they haven't treed one.
Thier bush skills are amazing right from an early age, the older boy owned the snare but it was the younger boy who caught the Bungarra and extremely proud was he!
