Garmin's Foretrex 301 and 401 navigators are like pixelated breadcrumbs

Old news is not always good news.
But waving this wristwatch style GPS directly over your search coils may just erase the flash memory inside it.

Be careful!

I met a guy who put his Garmin GPS down onto a large, PI search coil and it died. He said that it simply never turned back on again. So he bought a replacement. Not long afterward, he wondered if it was the coil that had ruined his first GPS... so he placed the new one close to the coil to see what would happen. You can guess for yourself what the results were. He was told that the detector's EMF wiped the Flash Memory of the GPS.
