Help - any detecting clubs in brisbane?? & advice on gold finds??
Hi yall,
Looking to learn more about detecting, panning and identifying good gold producing grounds but am pretty limited to whats available in Brisbane, is there anywhere that i may have missed available to this keen prospecting couple.
went out for a day trip and come across some shiney specks in the bottom of the pan, was not convinced it was gold. does fools gold end up on the bottom of the pan like gold would?? can VERY thin gold flakes float?? or were we just fooled on aprils fools day coincidently
Thank you
Aymz

Aynz The answer to your question is Yes, Gold can float due to the water surface tension. If it is pyrites it is easily identifiable by pressing it with the edge of your fingernail and it will break easily.
If it is floating, poke it till it sinks and then pan it and watch its' behaviour with the sand etc in the pan. It should be left behind in the tail when you gently swirl the pan if it is gold.

a drop of dish washing liquid will stop gold floating -- just a drop in the pan and give it a bit of a swish with your hand and all will be good
