G’day all.

WANTED - Drivers for photo scanner. Efh1h8N       WANTED - Drivers for photo scanner. U6aFgHf

I am after drivers for this very old photo scanner. This particular one was made for Target here in Australia, but there are a lot of this style and all manufactured in the same factory but with different names for the brand that wanted them.

This type of scanner does film, slides and photos. If you own one similar to this that will be fine, so long as it is the same shape.

I am only after the drivers to get it to work. This one is brand new and came with everything except the CD containing the drivers. So that is all I am after, the CD, or a copy of it. The scanner was released with Windows XP drivers. I have tried installing it on Windows XP, 7, 10 and 11 to no avail. The best I got was another company’s name after hooking it up to a Windows 11 PC, OMNIVISION.

I have downloaded several versions of drivers off the internet but they all do the same thing. They install the device but fail to start it. It just doesn’t work with downloaded drivers.

Hopefully someone out there might still have this scanner and the original CD and I can get it working.
UNLESS someone who has used this scanner informs me that the scan result is less than desirable and not to waste my time.

Thank you all, Axtyr.

Hi Axtyr
When you connect it to you PC does it appear in your device manager(usually with the yellow exclamation mark if the drivers not installed or not working). If so have you checked the Hardware ID to get the Manufacturer/Driver details from google.
This how I usually source the correct driver.

G’day all. I don’t want to sound as if I am putting anyone down so I am adding this information. Certainly no agro toward you Deutran.

I have worked in IT for 25 and my specialty is hardware and installation.

Thanks Duetran, this is what I have done so far to try getting it working.

I initially received this unit and tried installing it in Windows 10 to no avail. I thought it might already have the drivers embedded in the operating system but no drivers were created for Windows 10. I put it away for some months and I was going to give it back to my sister when I thought I might plug it into a Windows 11 laptop that I was setting up. This is when I got the message that a new OMNIVISION device had been detected. Unfortunately there were still no drivers.

So I started searching the internet for drivers from Omnivision but although the company still exists, it seems they no longer sell items such as this, and don’t have the drivers available on their website. More internet searching and I found drivers for this device on a site somewhere and I downloaded the drivers for XP, 7, 8.1 etc.

These drivers work off an INF file. There is not SETUP.EXE file so I cannot install the drivers then attach the device. I have to plug in the scanner and then point to the INF file to install the drivers.

It tells me that the drivers installed successfully, BUT, then it says the “device failed to start” and it does not work.

It was then I decided to re-image hard drives first with Windows 7, then Windows XP but I always got the same message that the device failed to start. It does this on every operating system I have tried it on.

That is why I am after the original drivers if possible. The original drivers should work. SHOULD.
Why am I persisting? I hate being beaten. That’s just me.

My apologies if I have offended you Deutran, or anyone else, and any spelling mistakes I have made.

As an aside, for those that have read to the end, my latest project is installing Windows 11 on older laptops. The ones I have been installing it on are all around the 2012 era. Microsoft have released a new edition of Windows 11 that has reduced hardware requirements. It worked on some and not on others. There are still some hardware requirements, but the most annoying issue is that now you MUST have the internet and you MUST use a Microsoft account to be able to install it.

However, through APC magazine, they had a link to Tiny Win11, a cut down version of Windows 11. I particularly like this version because you can install it without requiring a Microsoft account and the internet to install it. You still need a valid Windows license, and on some computers there are still troubles.

Regards Axtyr.

G’day everyone.

Thank you to all that responded.

I don’t hold out much hope of getting the drivers for this thing, so I got out an old HP Scanjet 4570C and the quality of the photo scanning is really good. I am more than happy with the results of the photo scans.
Only about another 1100 photos to go, and that’s just for that trip in 2003. I got my digital camera in 2010 so have all photos before 2003 and up until Christmas Day 2010 to scan.

Scanning the negatives is another matter. Only one strip of the negatives (4 photos) and at 2400 resolution it takes almost 12 minutes to scan. The quality has left a lot to be desired and I am going to be flat out adjusting them in Photoshop to get them looking the same as the original photos. Maybe I will scan the negatives and leave them and adjust them when required.

I should have done this during Covid. Bird flu has broken out so you never know what will happen.

Regards Axtyr.

Well, I was fortunate enough to receive an ISO image of the original CD from someone on another forum that shall go un-named.

Dean had a friend with the same unit and he got the drivers to me. It installed perfectly on the old XP computer.

And the results are:

Photos: Don't bother. The scanned photo comes out too dark.

Negatives: Much better but they come out with a coloured tinge all over the scan. Probably need to be at least marginally proficient with Photoshop or other editing program. However, one scan came out better than another so it would appear that the amount of light in the photo might make a big difference. You might get real lucky and find the scan is good enough.

Slides: Probably the best of the lot. Much better output.

Overall, if you only have the negative then scanning that will be a better option than not having the photo at all. I don't know how good the professional scanning is.

I also had the same problem with the HP Scanjet 4570C with negatives. All the scanned negatives had a brown tinge to them.

Regards Axtyr.

Thanks Deutran.

It is safely back in the cupboard and I have been using the HP 4570C for the photos. A much better result.
