Re: Earthquakes and gold
Quite possibly Tim, but only if a dead volcano near by happens for some unknown reason or another, to become live & active overnight, spilling out millions of tons of molten lava.
But if such an event were to happen or to take place, wait till it cools down a little before you go specking for colour.

Re: Earthquakes and gold
One has to look on the bright side of things Tim, for if you're there specking for colour straight after a volcanic eruption has occurred with lava flow having cooled down & a severe earthquake hits within the vicinity your detecting or specking over, well then you could say, its all over red rover.

Re: Earthquakes and gold
Between Licola and Rawson (near Walhalla) That would put it near "Toombon Gold-Mines Historic Area" Normal detecting in those mountain area is usually restricted to river or creek snipping with detectors.

Re: Earthquakes and gold
As someone living in the Shaky Isles I do not think Earthquakes will help you guys with gold finds, or I'd be rich
We had a 4.6 the day before the Melbourne quake and nobody blinks an eye, and it certainly never hits the media unless it's a building destroyer It made the hanging lights swing around in my lounge room though.
The only reason we know we've had most of them is someone in the house going did you feel that then we check the Geonet website and see it there as they never make the news.
It's worth a look at this, I think you'd be surprised how many Earthquakes we get a month, it has a list of the past 30 days of Earthquakes.
