First Trip To Tibooburra Empty First Trip To Tibooburra

Post  AU10OZ Mon Jul 19, 2021 9:37 am

I have recently returned from my first ever trip to Tibooburra.  I have wanted to go there for years but never got there until this year.
A friend had been there before and said he had heard that the gold can be bigger at Gumvale station. (I don’t know if this is really the case)  So we started off at Gumvale and I was finding a couple of grams a day so ended up staying there for the whole 7 days of detecting that I did. I ended up getting 74 pieces for about 15 grams all up. (54 pieces with the 7000 and 20 pieces with the 2300)
I mainly used my 7000 as I was lending my 2300 to a friend.  I thought that I might not do so well as all I had heard about Tibooburra suggested to me that the 2300 would be the go to machine.  However, after getting into the zone, I was loving using the 7000 there.  I only have the standard 14 coil, but got my new record smallest piece for the 7000, at 0.038grams.
The pic with the most gold is what I got with the 7000 and the other pic is when I had a bit of a play with the 2300 for a day or so.
My Mate who was brand new to the game got 6 pieces with the 2300 in 3 days detecting before he had to leave unexpectedly, which was a shame.

It was a great place to go and detect and I think I will probably go back.

Just goes to show that the GPZ 7000 (standard package) in the hands of a competent operator, still reigns supreme.  Top going for Tibooburra, well done to you both on the gold finds AU10OZ. cheers

Cheers Kon. cheers

Pretty good result in numbers and weight for the first trip there. You got onto a good area or two. Congrats!

How do I get permission to prospect there as well ?

Do you stay in the town or on the station ?

Thanks Everyone for your kind words of encouragement.
It was great to get a bit of gold as I hardly ever get to do a decent trip due to many family commitments.

AU_Toe There are a couple of stations you can get permission to detect on as well as the common also.
I was surprised that I saw hardly anyone at Gumvale. You can get permission from the two story Pub to detect on Gumvale. It is $10 a day to detect and $10 a night to camp on the station. The Station and Pub owner Craig may visit your campsite to say G'day and he seems like a really nice bloke.
Although I didn't get there, I think the other station has some of the more popular diggings on it and they charge $15 a day to detect and $5 a night to camp. You get permission from the general store for that one.

G'Day AU

Thanks for the quick response Smile

Being an Old Guy ( OG ) I ride a dirt bike or eBike, saves the legs for the digging !!!

Did you have to agree to any rules like no 'bikes' ?

Is Craig pretty easy going ?

I know most of us are on lock down, but anyone interested in going for a swing with a newbie ?

Actually Craig does seem like an easy going bloke.

You do not have to sign anything, just provide your details and pay your money.

Below is a photo of the back of the mud map that they give you, showing all the rules.
