Dug up an 1970 prospector's guide book, full of great info.
Victoria is surprisingly well scattered with gold, you don't realise it until you see it like this.

Interesting, my father was a teacher for 4 years at Jindivick, north of Warragul, in the late 60's. Never realised there was gold in the area.
Any chance you could put up a better pic of the area between Warragul and Noojee along with the map key?
Thanks

Re: FLYSPEC 2021
Thanks for that Moredeep, That map is fine. I vaguely recall dad once saying there was gold out around Noojee somewhere.

Re: FLYSPEC 2021
There is an area that took my interest between Neerim East & Fumina bicter, but then covid hit & it went on the backburner.
I will delve into it one day when I get some time.

I'm in QLD now so doubt I'll be back that way for a long time.moredeep wrote:boy you have got some serious billy goat country out that way.

Definitely recall walking the hills around Jindivick to visit school friends. Not that fit anymore
One place that really sticks in my mind from back then is Glen Nayook, beautiful place and really cool on those stinking hot days. Also recall the Noojee pub (now that is billy goat country) had tree ferns carved into prehistoric monsters...... always had plenty of time to check them out while dad was in the pub after playing cricket out there

I got out before the heat set in and pinged this tiddler [.267gms ]
It's interesting to note the little bump on it.
There was some speculation that it may have been gold regrowth but a geo friend did some some studies on these lumps/blisters.
The geo got one of these blisters crossed sectioned and analysed it with and electron microscope and a spectrometer, he was expecting to find regrowth patterns
but none were present, the cross section had same crystallisation and trace element as the rest of the nugget.
His conclusion was that they were more than likely remnants of where the quartz or matrix was attached and protected that part of the nugget from erosion.
It's then become detached and worn smooth leaving these little blister type lumps.
The other pic is a favourite spot of mine, I'm sitting on the bottom of an ancient river bed over looking the country side, the red dot is where Vaughan springs is.[Mt franklin is in the background]
It's mind boggling the amount of water that would have been flowing over these area's and at force to create these round pebbles and carving out huge valleys.
Good luck if you get out that way

I hope you all enjoyed my journey through out the year of 2021.
Hopefully next year will produce some larger tiddlers.
I think I'll title it monster tiddlers 2022
