Riggers Gloves....
In the last 20 years or so gold detecting have used Riggers Gloves, probably for 2 reasons, protection from Bites and the sun. Had a misspent youth and now have sun cancer problems not serious, but have had a few cut outs. Now also use long sleeve shirts regardless of the heat ( protection against the sun/flies etc.)
Enjoy The Weekend Prospector with Andrew Bales Season 3, he does'nt use gloves and has his sleeves rolled up below elbow, but seems on TV to find more gold than me, so maybe thats a hint. Also does not use a plastic scoop/small shovel. Season 1 and 2 are entertaining as well, with a different presenter to Andrew with not the same experience/knowledge but still to me worth watching. From memory Season 1,2 and 3 are on Freeview.
I find that RG's after they get wet, loose there softness, so its time for another pair.

Re: Riggers Gloves....
I know what you mean pete,I have the pleasure of going to the quack a few times a year to get my things burnt off
Tried the gloves but couldn't stand them, even tried cutting the fingers off the gloves so I could handle things better.
That worked ok but trying to get the gloves off with no fingers is a nightmare.
So basically it's the old slop slap slip with extra slop and the odd callus.
cheers moredeep

Re: Riggers Gloves....
Pete I use Silver Ninja gloves they are Dynema without the rubber coating so they allow your hands to breathe and still give great touch sensitivity,I get about a year from a set.As I have sensitive skin they protect really well and cover the wrists as well.
Unfortunately they are hard to find now so when they come up on line I buy in bulk.
They are something like these;

Re: Riggers Gloves....
I have started to wear cheap heavy duty gardening gloves , due to too many cuts from glass and old tin when retrieving finds. Thin leather on the palms and the rest is fabric. Not too bulky to wear while detecting and really comfortable. Not a fan of people putting gold in their mouth to clean it. Better off spitting on it. Does the same thing without risking infection or poisoning.

Re: Riggers Gloves....
My local Aussie Disposals store sells goat skin gloves for about $15 a pair, thin, tough, durable, and not clumsy like thicker gloves, I have been using them for 10+ years and always have spares on hand. Also as a long term glove user I have a number of spare used right hand gloves, out of curiosity any one else have a similar experience?

Don't use gloves when detecting but I'm with you in my shed, many lonely right hand gloves.

I'm hoping to meet up with someone left handed with the same but opposite problem and then each of us send the other one half of their spare gloves.
