Hi sharkbait, there was a meeting some time ago in Maryborough with the PMAV and reps from ballarat council and other dignitaries.
They assured prospectors at the meeting that the classification wouldn't affect detecting.
The idea of making something UNESCO listed is to bring in tourist to the area and put the gold area's on the world stage, that's all; I think.
Wombat may have more to add to on this matter.

What Moredeep has said is correct. I was assured just yesterday by Trevor Budge the Manager for Regional Sustainable Development for the Bendigo Council that there will not be any restriction on the goldfields in regards to mining or prospecting. In the contrary they want the goldfield to be classified as a living goldfield where people can go and look for gold when or if the World Heritage comes into play. Trevor was one of the people we meet a few months ago at a meeting in Maryborough. Right now the $50,000+ will be spent on research looking at signage of interesting sites, bush road signs, free camping areas, internet accessibility, water clarity, bush road conditions and local towns. The list goes on. These are some of the things we spoke to them about at our last meeting. So it looks like they may have heard our advice. They need to do this to be able to get to the next stage. The only Heritage things they are looking at are building and towns that reflect the golden era, and pacific site like the Garfield Wheel in Castlemaine or the Pumping Station in Bendigo. They are also looking at making our Miners Right, and have it classified under a Heritage listing. In other words if that happens on Government will be able to touch our Miners Right or take it away from us like they have done in other states. And as the Miners Right states , we have the right to mine. The PMAV and BUGU will be working very closely with the Councils and organises when things get closer to the time as we are one of main players and have a major interest of the Goldfield. We hope to meet up with them again shortly for a briefing of activities and where they are at.

Sharkbait if that was the case there may be a good chance of selling some to the tourists at a top dollar price. Specially if it came from the triangle. V06 V18 V28 V36
