This photo sparked my memory and will do a little more delving to try and remember where we came across it late 90's. We didn't detect, were on a bush bashing exercise and never found it again until 2015 and once again didn't detect because it was almost sundown. We named it the "Truckside Mine.

No one goes out of their way to sink a shaft down out in the middle of nowhere, for no good reason Pete. It had to be worth their while to do so. The shaft as well as surrounding area, definitely warrant further investigation.

Looks like they mined after 1950s by the fuel drum.I found an unlisted mine a little bit larger than yours, about 1Km plus south of it I got on virgin ground and got over 30 ounces on the patch. Hope you have the same luck on your spot, as you keep meaning to do it.
