Re: All the signs of a major drought coming up
I think one of the main things that annoy me most about this drought ,is the great ''Australian Attitude '' of she''ll be right mate ,or doesn't matter if it burns ,it's insured ,besides all our problems will be over when the drought breaks .I fell that i'm banging my head when trying to encourage some people to take '' Bush fire preparedness '' and their waste of grey water ,when it also can be better utilized . My home situation ,having a lifestyle block outa town ,sitting smack bang in the middle of a '' EXTREME '' Fire zone ,surrounded by forestry ,I was actually critized by one parson for cutting down too much timber on my block .!!! Now not '' ONE '' of my few neighbours has done any '' preparedness '' what so ever . In fact one even rolled out a round bale of straw mulch on her garden to be used for compost before xmass .But the main point i'm trying to make here is ,that we all have a responsibility not only to our selves & family's but as well to our neighbours etc ,and the greater community .

I put it down to 'natural selection'...people go bush all the time over here with no safety gear....some die......natural selection.

All the signs of a major drought coming up
Now that the wet season has arrived in the tropics and all you southerners are getting flooded from tropical lows and East coast lows and cyclones.
How many of you have changed your views on ..... { All the signs of a major drought coming up. }
You are all too short sighted , you all know that the wet season always produces major flooding every year.
So far the Whitsundays for the month of January we have had 467 mm . February so far 55 mm .
The next 3 months are our wettest months.

We still have drought conditions in many parts of Australia including where I live. The drought has only broken in some areas.

Re: All the signs of a major drought coming up
Let me rephrase that bowenboi. "All the signs of major floods coming up"
It certainly wasn't looking good for many an outback town/farmer before the fires broke out, but once again the weather has gone from one extreme to the next.
Cyclones, earthquakes I can only wonder as to what comes next, for the sun's rays are showing no sign of cooling down anytime soon. Unpredictable weather indeed.
Cheers Kon.

Reminds me of the poem ‘My Country’ by Dorothea Mackellar
Part of -
I love a sunburnt country,
A land of sweeping plains,
Of ragged mountain ranges,
Of droughts and flooding rains.
I love her far horizons,
I love her jewel-sea,
Her beauty and her terror -
The wide brown land for me!

I'm with you AnnieL, Australia is Australia and always will be.
All this doom and gloom is enough to drive us all to drink, if there was some water.

Yeah I was confident enough months ago to big note myself in telling any one that we'd get rain in January - febuary in Nth NSW , ( not how much thou of course .. ) knowing that we'd have to get at least some from up NTH . Thou as lovely as it is ,it's still not drought breaking ,despite what some in the media are suggesting ,that's going to take several good seasons , I believe . Some areas around here have had bugger all too , I know of two cockys ,20 k apart ,ones had 145mm , the other 32mm !!

Re: All the signs of a major drought coming up
A few weeks ago I thought another Debbie was about to smash the Northern Rivers, 5 months ago camped on Coopers Creek watched a cattle drove go through, plenty of feed and water from the deluge earlier that year. Crossing Menindee Lakes recently an emu with a clutch of 18 chicks, friends in Hay seeing similar down on the plains. Seen droughts come and go and reckon this one is near done
