unfortunately there is a planned 4 hour public transport strike on the 27th in melb 10am to 2pm.,not sure if it will effect country travellers to melb [VLINE]
Hopefully talks will resolve the situation with public transport workers b4 then.
Otherwise there might be a double rally at spring street??
cheers moredeep

Hi Moredeep
I don't think that V/Line is being affected as I think it's with Metro the strike is happening to. But if V/Line is involved, the strike does not start 10am and most people coming from regional town will have to catch the train before 10am anyway. Up here in Maryborough we are planning to bring a bus down as our train service is sh!t at any time. We hoping to get a 57 seater that will go through Castlemaine if your interested. It may cost $10 per seat, but not sure as yet.

Thanks Jen & Moredeep. It was a huge effort by a lot of people. There was a few months hard planning went into that Rally. We had a lot of Pollies out there talking to the crowd and a lot of BUGU people as well. There may be another one a little further down the track. But can't say to much right now. Still trying to get over this one. But Holidays first.

Re: * BUSH USER GROUPS UNITED * Come on one and all and support this Facebook Group of Bush Users concerned about pending changes **
I will probably be abused and shouted down for this, but none the less;....While you all cry 'here here' and consider this rally a success, you might stop and ask yourselves; "what is the reaction of the general public to this gathering?
A clue lies in the way it has been reported in the media. The journalists covering this event looked bored and the reaction seemed to be..."ho hum". As to your average Joe who has nothing to do with prospecting, it appeared to be a political rally. Opposition politicians making promises that they will never need to keep to a crowd of what looked like One Nation supporters. While you swell with pride and pat each other on the back, to the general public it was a non event and will be forgotten in a flash.
Continual derogatory remarks about indigenous people by one speaker added to the public impression that this was just a bunch of whinging rednecks.
This rally quite possibly did more harm than good.

Unlike some people Reg ,I'd rather die on my feet than die on my knees.
Cheers moredeep
ps, The people at the rally probably didn't look that much different to the rednecks that fought at EUREKA?

Moredeep, correct me if I'm wrong, but I seem to recall that they were defeated at Eureka. Caught napping one could say. Maybe Wombat will end up a politician like Lalor did.

Re: * BUSH USER GROUPS UNITED * Come on one and all and support this Facebook Group of Bush Users concerned about pending changes **
Reg check your history. The diggers may have lost the battle but won the war. Who do you think elected Lalor in the first place PROSPECTORS and MINERS. And Eureka gave us our democracy to own land, to vote, and to demonstrate when we do not agree with Government decisions. And not just bend over and cop it up the a**s like some people, would like us to do.
I would be very proud to be like Lalor. Remember it was the miners of the day that rallied even then against the Government. We are doing almost the same thing 165 years later. But in a more wider scope.
This about Peter Lalor, so I thank you very much for putting me up there with this great man. After the Eureka uprising, most of the miners’ grievances were redressed. After the expansion of the Victoria Legislative Council to include representatives from the goldfields, Lalor was one of the first elected in 1855. He subsequently served in the Legislative Assembly (lower house) in 1856–71 and 1875–87; he was first elected from the electoral district of North Grenville, then (1859) from South Grant and (1877) Grant, all of them Ballarat- and Geelong-area constituencies. As a representative, he generally advocated for the miners (including compensation for the victims of the Eureka uprising) and gave political support to a national education system, the protection of local industry, and immigration.

The diggers were caught off guard by some sneaky tactics, but much to their credit they fought to their deaths.
It's people like Wombat and those at the rally that I would be proud to have in the trenches with me,I know they would watch my back and not run away.
