Re: Metal Detecting Injuries
I've only ever had one bad injury while detecting. Was camped with my girls when they were 10 and 8 on the Turon and managed to break my leg with an axe.
Dragged myself out of the large pool of blood and used one of my socks to stop the blood spurting out by stuffing the wound with the grotty sock, complete with dirt, crudd, burrs and that crap like plastecine that builds up between your toes.
It was way too late to try and drop the camper top, pack up and try and drive out so we decided to get through the night and make it out in the morning.
I explained to the girls what shock was and that I may start shaking and shivering etc and if this happened to just make sure I was covered and warm.
We got through the night fine! Both girls sat up with me the whole night, kept the fire going and my eldest even made me a nice stick to help me walk. I still have the stick too.
We packed up and rather than get stuck in Bathurst hospital and worrying about the girls, I drove all the way back to the Central Coast where the girls could be looked after.
Two weeks in hospital and banned by my girls from ever using an axe again!
I now have a chainsaw, I figure the cut will be cleaner and I can use it to cut a decent pirate type stump instead of my daughter having to find a stick in the dark.

Re: Metal Detecting Injuries
this wasnt a detecting injury but i once had a compound fracture of the leg with the bone sticking out.i got it tackling a front row forward and stopping a try. i kept on playing but the ref ordered me off the field as he said i was a danger to the other players as they were cutting themselves on the bone as they were tackling me

Re: Metal Detecting Injuries
ok ok ok, i promise i will post a detecting injury story after friday when i get back. If i dont post at all, well maybe that will be a lesson not to detect alone, especially when you are accident prone like me, lmao. But nobody worry, i have my PLB

does chafing in the nether regions count?
A little army trick is to pack some baby wipes or alcohol wipes and use those when you can't shower. Some people get irritation from the residue that baby wipes can leave, whereas alcohol wipes leave no residue, but can still cause irritation to some people. Just a matter of trying and seeing what works for you. Also talc can do wonders to reduce sweating in that area.
