18 inch Excellerator E coil
Purchased this18 inch Excellerator l DD coil as a non functional coil 12 months ago. Coil cable chewed by a dog.
Have repaired the cable but do not know which detector it fits. Anybody got any clues?
The socket is the same as a Sov XS and wiring config is also the same but inductance values are significantly different to the Sov. The coil works on the Sov but sensitivity is low. maybe it fits an Explorer.
I have an 18 inch Excelerator Sov XS coil which is what I have compared this other coil to.

Re: 18 inch Excellerator E coil
I don't think this coil is for the Sov XS. This coil is marked "Excellerator E", whereas the one that works on my Sov XS is marked "Excellerator EQ2 Pro" and as I said. The inductance values are very different between the two coils. which is why I thought it may be for the Explorer series. The Explorer / FBS coils donot work with the Sovs./ BBS detectors

Adrian looks like an early explorer coil from memory.
Anyway this might help

Ok so that is it then. It is for the Explorers. That link stated that it would fit the safari but my safari has a different plug. I do not know which plug is fitted to the Explorer coils

Connector with 6 pins meets the coil Sovereign.

Re: 18 inch Excellerator E coil
Ok so because the inductance and resistance values of this big coil near enough matches my safari coils I am going to connect a safari connector to this coil and see if it will work with the safari. Will let you know soon.
A short while later:
Well there ya go, I now have an 18 inch coil for my safari. It works perfectly. Not bad for 5 bucks plus a $1.86 for a connector from Jaycar .

It will cost you more for a skid plate...

Re: 18 inch Excellerator E coil
I doubt that I will use this coil often enough to bother fitting a skid plate. But I will see how it performs at the beach. It air tested easily a 10 oz lead nugg at one metre in search and pinpoint mode. and rings and coins are signalling at better than 12 inches with sensitivity at approx 65% along with some annoying EMI. which is not bad for such a large coil.
