I need help find my dad's gold watch

I need help to find my fathers gold watch that was lost in water/sand in Thailand Phuket when he was hit by a wave in April 2016. He was searching for the watch the same day and a few days after without finding it. It fell of his wrist a on the ground but was covered with sand in a moment.

I am now in Phuket and will try to find it. The watch mean a lot to me. I know the location where it was lost, (3/3 sq m).
Can anybody give me tips how to find the watch?
Will it be in the same location one year after?
Will it be deep under the sand?
Should I dig or does anyone know if it is possible to borrow a gold detector in Phuket?

I would be very grateful for any help.

If the sand is dry, then an "el cheapo" will do the job.
DON'T TELL ANYONE YOU ARE LOOKING FOR A GOLD WATCH OR YOU WILL BE SURROUNDED BY HALF OF ASIA (DIGGING WITH THEIR BARE HANDS) !!!

It sound like it is in water. Wait for a low tide of King tide the best is around Good Friday because of Easter is near a full moon.. That tip has found me many gold rings and jewelry with VLF detectors.

Easter is a moveable feast and is celebrated on the first Sunday after the first spring full moon.
