Re: counterfeit minelab products
The fakes are better now than ever before & it seems that even Minelab agree that you can no longer tell the real ones from the fakes.
They should have used a chip like their VFLEX chip in all their coils & detectors. Dealers could have then tested the coils & the control boxes against one another to spot any fakes. No excuse for it next machine, right?

Re: counterfeit minelab products
If you click on the PDFs at the bottom of the page on the link above, you can see the pictures of the fakes in much more detail. Very impressive job on some of them. Remember also that they've managed to reproduce the Coiltek and NF coils as well so nearly everything is tainted. If it wasn't for the Africans trying so hard to continually make money off their own pals, those stupid fakes would probably never see the light of day. The whole thing is sort of self-perpetuating.
Cheers.

Re: counterfeit minelab products
Gday
Thats something that all detectorist using minelab products should see, there are some very clever fakes about by the sounds of things, my advice is to hang on to what you have, as time goes on people will realise that they have to source genuine products and that will make the real mcoy stuff worth all the more.
cheers

Re: counterfeit minelab products
while the 15x12 mono commanders were fetching a premium well over the DD version, a few scammers were buying DD's and putting counterfeit mono stickers on them, then reflogging them off as monos.
I know of one fellow who bought 10 restickered DD's at $1800.00 a pop

Re: counterfeit minelab products
There's probably a bright side. Eventually, a reliable and competent Chinese manufacturer will release a range of detectors that are very similar in quality to Minelabs, but at a quarter of the price.

That Spanish seller (has in the past) been stocked with fake detectors which he buys from Turkey and China. I've even spotted him doing a Bait-and-Switch a few times when he runs out of the products that he wants to sell. He got angry last year when he couldn't supply the GPX due to a lack of supply at the time (the fakes weren't available then) and so he started flogging other brands claiming they were better and went deeper etc. I'm only guessing but I would suspect that he was chastised for this and now is now unable to buy anything but the fakes. I'd guess that he is happy to buy the fakes and knows he can wrangle more money this way. 20 fake GPXs at a discount is still going to cost him much less than 20 real ones ...so his expenses are low and his profit margin is no doubt rather high.
I have to watch out for exceptionally high quality fake Spanish Colonial coins from the same location since that is what I like to collect. Spain seems to host a lot of scammers these days.
