I am new to this forum and detecting, but am hoping that I can learn from others and contribute a bit myself along the way.

Well, I jumped in at the deep end and bought myself a GPX 5000, well to tell you the truth my wife bought it for me as she thought I have too much free time on my hands Smile I haven't been to the minelab training day yet but have read the instruction manual twice and watched the "GPX 5000 unwrapped" DVD.

Yesterday I went for my first ever trip, which was to Peters Gully in Heathcote, Victoria. Unfortunately no gold, but the various arrays of shotgun pellets and .22 cases tells me that I must be at least doing something right. A lot was learned on this first trip, firstly that it is not "money for jam", I spent 8 hours detecting without a single speck of gold. However, I have come away absolutely hooked on this past time, I am hungry for more information to help me crack that first nugget.

Q31  to the forum Kevwr..

Yep, you sure do find more lead and junk than gold..
At least you are on the right track, finding shotgun pellets..
You won't miss the gold..
keep at it, because you will find it, just a matter of walking over it.

It's a very enjoyable hobby, all that fresh air and peace of the bush.

Looking forward to hearing of your adventures..
Enjoy the forum, ask away.. Any questions you have..
Plenty of helpful members here..

you should do the training day, very worthwhile..
