Hi,

I'm just new to the forum and have been prospecting a couple of times using hired equipment and found one 9 gram nugget.
I am now looking a purchasing a Gpx 5000 and was doing some research on places to go on the DPI site.
From my understanding we can prospect on crown land but I 'm trying to find out the definitions of the different crown lands on that site and if I can prospect on them or not.

There is the following:

Unavailable Crown Land
Commonwealth land
Restricted Crown land
Crown Land

Can anyone please give me a definition of these in regard to gold detecting.

Regards, Wooly

Hi Wooly,

Welcome to the forum.
My guess is just crown land.
Commonwealth land would include military land, airports etc
Buy a second hand 4000 or 4500 and make sure this caper is for you.
They are cheaper and your more likely to get your money back when you sell.
The difference is akin to the difference between a VE Commodore and a VE MKII.
Good luck.

G'day Wooly,welcome to the forum.

Parks Victoria(Department of Primary Industries) is the go for that information Wooly. Each district has a local ranger in charge with the knowledge to tell you where you can and cannot go to swing a coil. What I do if not sure,is look into topographic maps of any place I wish to enter for the purpose of metal detecting and then ring the local ranger of the area for info as to the where's and whats I'm allowed to do and go.Most of them are a helpful bunch, so don't be afraid to ask.

Cheers Kon. cheers What a Face
