Hi 1080, unfortunately they would get picked up by the detector, but you could swing your detector away when you put that ankle forward and you should be ok. Smaller steps and more rhythmic swinging and you should be fine. May actually work in your favour as it will slow you down a bit and allow you to do more thorough ground coverage.
Cheers

Funny thing with surgical metals. I have two decent size titanium (I Think) plates in my left leg and held in place with about 18 screws and they do not set off the metal detectors in places like court houses and the airport.
Don't know why and have not looked into it.

High qual S/S has a low carbon high chrome content and is a very poor electrical conductor an as such does not allow strong eddy currents to develop and this causes it to not respond well in PI metal detectors.
I use S/s nuts and bolts as coil retainers.
I am not sure how the GPX range detectors respond to S/S because they have adjustable pulse timings and response will vary depending on the timing selected.
