coil for sd 2000
What would be the best coil type and size for small targets only and for deep nuggets only for a modded SD 2000?
Re: coil for sd 2000
Hi again Cabletie,
The 2000 is not really a deep small nugget machine, and even the newer GPXs are limited to a small nugget at depth. Generally speaking, the deeper you go, the bigger the nugget should be to be able to break the threshold and be detected. The advantage the newer machines have, is that they can be adjusted to provide a smooth threshold to allow you to here that slight change in the threshold when you go over a smallish deep target.
IMHO, the best all round size for an SD in unknown ground, is the 14" and for smoothness and quietness, in a DD configuration. This is what I have found and what works for me, but others may have different opinions. When a target is found, then I decide whether to go in size coil for that immediate area, or go down in coil size if I find it's a small target in a shallow area. Of course this is my preference, and you may find something else works for you.
As mentioned in other posts though, mono coils WILL give you better sensitivity to the smaller targets at depth, but will you be able to put up with the noise to be able to hear that slight break in the threshold of that deeper smaller nugget? Trial and error will give you the answer for this question, because every machine is slightly different and everyone's ears and their tolerance to noise, is slightly different and what works in one scenario may not work in a different scenario.
Cheers

Re: Coil for sd2000
From experience, I suggest the Coiltek 14" (brown) DD Pro........it's the optimum for small shallow nuggets and bigger deeper nuggets (for that model of detector)......and if you work on deep quiet ground, I suggest the orginal 18" green coil ( I found a 18gm piece on bedrock...knee deep hole).
Be lucky.

Re: coil for sd 2000
I found that 14x9 Mono Coiltek Blitz coil fetched plenty of small and medium nuggets at depth for
my Mod SD2000. Also it covers enough areas for each swing.
The 16 Mono NF coil also worked well for large and medium ones.

Re: coil for sd 2000
Wow this is all good advice. Next question is where to find ones at a decent price.
Re: coil for sd 2000
You can get them quite cheap on e-bay as many GPX owners are getting rid of them.

cabletie ... look for the old 'dustbin lid' as it was nicknamed. It's ugly ... but it's a good 'un for the 2000!
