I would honestly buy the 3500 over the other 3 choices.

I would look for an earlier model the Sd 2200d! Serial number 45XXXX.
Other than that if money isnt a worry go for a 3000!

G day Greg i've got a SD2200v2 and couldn't be happier with it. I can't give you a comparison to a GP because i haven't used one, seen em in action, worked beside one but haven't used one.

What i found when researching the v2 was a lot of experienced prospectors went from the 2200D to a GP or GPX and hadn't swung a 2200v2 so any comments from people that have seen em in action, worked beside one but haven't used one should be ignored.

The two people that i spoke to that do own em love em as i do.

Regards Brett

For bigger gold, like 1 ounce up..deep, the 2200 was the best, AND still is...i assume the 2200v is very similar. The newer detectors are only better on tiny bits.....!

I think all the Minelab PI's are very similar in terms of depth, but the later offerings are better on small bits. As an example, the 4500 is brilliant on these little bits but you pay for the privilege. Of the detectors you have listed, my personal choice would be the 3500. It has the ground balance button on the handle and a choice of tracking speeds to allow easier use, a manual tune button to tweak and make it run quietly, and in my opinion is the best of the GP series of machines. Cheers.

i owned a 2200d and it was one of the best detecters around at the time. after many test patches within the club i could always here what the others with later models could hear but not quite as crisp.many a person told me never to replace it and for a long time i didn,t.
that was until the 4500 came out any way.now i upgraded to a 3500 and to me it resembles the2200d very much only much quieter, the 2200d was an excellent machine although noisy in hot ground . but most important with the 22,s is that you get the right one. i tested many for other people and they did not stand up any where near mine . one member of our club tried four out and all were only average in comparison . his final result was to purchase an extreme, unfortunately he wasn,t over happy with the one he got.
the gentleman that bought mine is over the moon about it , but i was lucky that i got a good one

Hi Tom
Very true There is differences in the capabilities of the sd2200.A mate of mine had a great one sold it and after a year got back in detecting. We tested a few machines until we found one the was a good a his original. We aimed for stability and depth. One that we tested had 20 percent less perfomance. As he has had 1000's of hours on the sd2200,we knew what to look for.
Cheers Dig

hi dig24crt
totally true you do need experienced operators for the 2200,s , nothing worse than not getting the correct depth required so to speak,,cheers tom.....
