Re:KOSS (UR 30) HEADPHONES.......PROBLEMS !

I have a pair of KOSS UR 30 headphones which I purchased about 3 or 4 years back.......I've only used them on 3 or 4 trips because I found them to be too hot to wear in warm weather.
I noticed that there is a big problem.......the outer material covering the pads has completely disintegrated (hyrolyzed) into a powdery mess !
Has anyone else experienced this ?

I had a pair of mine start peeling on the weekend, you can buy replacement ear pads for them though.

Insect repellants with DEET in them eg Bushman will melt the ear pads.
Found this out the day I took my daughter out with me.
She ended up with black marks all over her face.

You didn't happen to store your headphones in a sealed plastic bag for long periods of time when not in use,cause if that were the case, that might explain the white powdery decomposition over time.(no air circulation)

Hi, on another matter, does anybody know if the koss 30 earphones can be repaired? our set had a loose conection at the earphone end and every time there is much movement the sound drops of to real quiet. must be a loose conection in them? Would I stuff them if I tried to pull them apart to prehaps solder up or tighten a screw or whatever to fix them. Its a real nuisance.

Their easy to fix,you only need to cut the wire at the headphones,strip it and resolder at the speakers.

Yes, had some similar issues with mine as well.

For those people who hate the headphones on in the summer months I have purchased a pair of BEATS Headphones and have been blown away by the performance, they also only sit on the ear and not over the ear, therefore generating less heat around the head and ears.

The frequencies that these headsets can pick up has been amazing on the 4500. I hear allot more detail using these headsets.

Now the Kicker

In AUS you will pay around $299 for the set, but if you get onto Deals Direct web site you will pay only $60.00 AUS. The down fall is that you will have to wait about a month for delivery unless you pay the extra shipping $25.00

Hi Mariner, any more details about your Beat headphones, like model number etc. they sound pretty good.

Thanks deutran, Was just worried that if I tried to pull apart , that would bugga them. So many things nowadays are not made to last or be repaired - just throwaway.
Peter, yes am very interested in model number etc as I want to get a spare set before we head away next year and if they seem to be beter than koss ur 30 then may try them instead.

OK I have consulted the techno gurus ( the 12 and 14 year olds ) and I many have given the wrong site name for the Beats Headphones.

They come in black, white and red.

They say that they are an imitation but, after receiving 2 pairs And looking at the packaging to that in the shops here in Aus I believe that they are not a knock off just being sold cheaply through an on line outlet.

Cost varies between $62 and $64 dollars depending on the colour you select.

Scuse my ignorance on all things technical, but what are "on ear headphones" Do they sit somehow different than the Koss 30's on the ears?

The on ear is the newer style of headphones they sit on the ear and not over the ear or in the ear.
