Taradale ?? Empty Taradale ??

Hi All

I usually prospect north of Dunolly but wanted to find an area a bit closer to Melbourne for some day trips. Taradale looked interesting from the research I did but it seems looking at the maps I have most if not all of the old diggings and Leads are on private property. There is a State forest to the west but with very few old surface diggings (almost none). There has been a mention of Taradale previously in the forum but only a couple of random comments and looking at my maps they might have been referring to surrounding areas. Has anyone had a go out that way and if you have where? I don't want an X on the map but if someone can steer me in the right general direction I would greatly appreciate it.

Found some diggings on the east side of the Calder last year sometime, had a quick go in the area for a few bits of junk, haven't been back since then though. I can't remember the exact spot but if you head up the Metcalfe-Teradale Rd just after you go under the Calder Fwy there is a turn off on the right (Carnell Rd), head up that track to a fork in the road, left at the fork. It's somewhere in there, it's not a big area (only a couple of main tracks) so shouldn't be to hard to locate the diggings.

I hope this helps Very Happy

Quote from old book

A party of three divided $15,000 as the proceeds of working
a claim at Back Creek, Taradale, to a depth of 12 feet,
their yield including a nugget of 648 oz. and a number of
small nuggets weighing 80 oz.

thanks for the info geof_junk.
When you say old Book what are we talking about, something which happened 100 years ago or more recent?

Hi

You mean closer ? not closure! otherwise if Blackwood is closure we can't detect there LOL!!!! I hope you have made a typo here otherwise I'm going to cry.

Just the other day i purchased a booklet on Trentham-Blackwood Gold prospecting Guide from a Mapworks shop in 184 Keilor Rd, Essendon VIC 3040 Embarassed and already read it 4 times LOL.

Maybe make it a day out for forum members, certainly with all the rain we have had, I'm sure there would be some interesting finds on the surface.

Cheers
