Dave, so happy you found a SA nugget. Another one ticked of your 'to find list'.  Proved again that the xcoil is the ducks nuts in finding the hard to get gold. Pity veronica never got a bit. An hr detecting that spot with good outcome. Next time will be her time.

Well I have been crushing some of the species from the WA trip, the end result from six species is 65.5 grams on the scales

All thanks to the 17x12 spiral X-Coil on the mighty 7000  Very Happy

I now have a 15x10 spiral, the slightly smaller cousin to the 17x12 spiral that I really like, I am going to have to give the 15x10 spiral a good go now.

I think this will be a coil that is very suitable for many locations.

From This to This the cleaning process to get gold showing through a specie which started at 76 grams now plenty of rock removed is 67 grams

Started like this 76 grams

Then in Alibrite for about 2 weeks, some fine gold also came away but I panned and captured that.

I gave the 15x10 spiral X-Coil a good run to day for a three or four hours at a thrashed to death spot today, still lead and lead shot targets and just plain rubbish there, but no gold, well there probably is but it is very hard to find there now.

Anyhow the main idea was to give the 15x10 coil a run and it worked and ran flawlessly, ferrite balanced quickly and easily and ran the rest of the time with no more need for ferrite, and the coil just hummed along very nicely.

Digging BB's and small lead shot, it had no trouble finding, about 6" (150mm) for small lead shot in very hard packed ground was about the best I could achieve for the day.

So now at least I can say for sure the 15x10 spiral X-Coils are a very good all round combo for the 7000, light weight and easy to swing and with the extra sensitivity of the elliptical shape combined with the bit extra ground coverage of 15" in length is a good combo.

Great stuff Dave, That specie looks great. We haven't done much detecting this year and when we have its mostly fly speck stuff. We hope to get to WA next years and get some decent gold. Or not. But it doesn't really matter, we know we will find enough to cover our costs at least but its actually being out there in the WA goldfields that we love.

Well done Dave and Veronica,

Glad to see you had a good trip, my X coils are still doing the trick for me !

Looking forward to WA next year, I have several patches that I want to hit with the 17 round, and then some more raw prospecting.

All the best,
Rick and Kaye
