Maytown/Palmer River - info needed
Hi all,
About to head off on a 4 week trip to Cape York. Originally didn't intend to take the GPX however the g/f's son has indicated he would like to give gold detecting a try.
We intend to come back via Maytown/Palmer river.
My question is, are there any areas set aside for detecting or do I need to track down property owners for permission to access/detect?
Any & all information gratefully accepted
Thanks in advance
Terry

No detecting permitted unless you get permission from a lease holder.

Don't know much about the Palmer River myself. You could start out enquiring at the Palmer River Road House, I used to go on a small bit of land, pay to detect
across from the road house and got to know it well, but they closed that for the eclips festival and hasn't reopened as far as I know, that's going back a few years now.
I used to enjoy camping at the road house it was great. This time of year it's very very hot! and will get hotter. Be careful out there.
Cheers

You are correct mate and the property was Maitland Downs Station. John did indeed shut that down after the eclipse and to my knowledge none of the station owners or corporations in the area allow detecting now.
